Shape of Dreams review

Lizard Smoothie’s co-op action roguelite launched on Steam in September 2025 and arrived on Xbox Series X|S day one with Game Pass on Sept 17. The Xbox version includes The Starless Path, its first-anniversary update, which adds a new Traveler (the frost-wielding Cetus), a new final boss and a new ending, plus a year of balance work.

You pick one of nine Travelers, each with a different combat style, and dive into ever-shifting dreamscapes. You build your character from more than 200 Memories (abilities) and Essences that modify them. Up to four players can team up online with cross-play, and TheXboxHub says drop-in co-op on Xbox stays as slick as solo play.

Critics on PC were enthusiastic: an 83 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic, with 90% recommending it. Screen Rant (9/10) said roguelite debuts are rarely as content-rich, deep or stable. COGconnected (79/100) praised how quickly it hands you powerful tools but felt it’s more satisfying in a group, and Cubed3 (7/10) warned it’s a long-haul roguelite rather than a quick-session one.

TheXboxHub, reviewing on Xbox, found brand-new things after more than 15 runs and ranks it among the best in the genre. HowLongToBeat puts reaching the credits at about eight and a half hours, with extras running well past 25. On Game Pass it’s an easy one to try tonight.
